Snack time will never be the same at our house now that I'm doing this challenge! We always have to play with our food! Yummy yummy peanuts make a pretty dress done in neutrals for spring. I see it in a figure-hugging silk linen, so that it shows off your shape to advantage but is still flirty around the knees. For a pop of color, wear it with a bright scarf and shoes.

My friend Michele sent me home with her stash of candy corn since she's gone on a diet. The girls were so excited! But first we had to play with it before eating it! I love the fun tiered skirt and fluffy sleeves of this dress, as well as the bright colors. Once again, I'm making a summer dress, but my muse seems set on it so who am I to argue? I'd love to wear this dress this summer, although probably in a fresh cotton gauze rather than candy. It would last longer in the sun that way! *grin*
Playing with puzzles with my granddaughters led to -- of course! -- making a dress from one of them. I've been wanting to design a draped shoulder dress for some time, but most of the items I've been working with didn't lend themselves to such a design feature. However, the puzzle pieces did. This animal print dress is basically a strapless gown with a shoulder drape that flows over one shoulder and down the back just past the waist. Done in a print gauze, this lightweight summer gown is suitable for any evening party on the back deck or on a yacht. And for a cruise -- it's perfect!
I don't know why my mind is so set on summer, but I'm not going to fight it. I haven't been motivated to design summer dresses in quite a while, so it's actually rather refreshing to be doing so (even if it's a bit surprising!) *grin* It felt great to get out this book and add a country to it today! And my granddaughters were happy to learn about another place in the world and the girls that live there. My youngest granddaughter decided that this little girl needed a name, but I passed that responsibility on to her. So she may eventually get a name, but I'm not going to hold my breath. My granddaughter's memory is long, but her interests are fickle. I'm just glad to have a fun and creative way for them to learn about the world beyond their doorstep.
It's good to be back home! The girls and I played with their hair bows and clips for a while and came up with some pretty dresses. This one turned out simply adorable! I love the floral midriff that's echoed in the straps. And of course, we had to have polka dots! The multicolor floral skirt is another delightful part of this dress. I know it's not summer yet, but this dress has me thinking it can't be far away!
I forgot to credit Melissa for this idea in my original post. Thanks, Melissa, for such a great idea! We had a blast making our hair bow dresses! I had a fun time in Michele's craft room and found a bag of exotic sequins, some of them quite large. (The big stars and saxophones are 2"!) So of course I had to make a dress out of them. I loved having the theatre faces as the bodice, although it might not look quite proper on a real woman's figure. But the saxophones made really fun sleeves, as well as a great flounce at the hem of the skirt. Lots of bling on this dress. I don't know where I'd wear it, unless it was to a costume party. But it's definitely an eyeful!
I'm back home now and sorry to say good-bye to Michele after our fun week. But maybe we can visit her again soon. In the meantime, it's good to see my own workroom again, as well as my wonderful family! I spent most of my week setting up Michele's craft room at her new apartment, and I can honestly state that she has a lot fo punches! Using only her small punches, I made this dress with a square neckline, short sleeves, and A-line skirt. With such boldly colored punches, this dress would look great in a color block print (with just that hint of bling in cute shapes dotted here and there. This is definitely a day dress, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be exciting and fun to wear!
I head home tomorrow, so I won't have Michele's craft room itens to play with anymore. But I'll be back to my own workroom! Woo-hoo! Michele found this dress for me when she gave me an old brooch she didn't want anymore. It was a dragonfly and the pin back had fallen off. The backside of the brooch looked like an elegant golden fairy gown. Notice the halter neckline, bustier, and figure-hugging short skirt with a narrow train down the back. The gold wings add the final fairy touch for a brilliant showstopper of a dress! I can see this gown done in a shimmery gold knit for maximum effect. Wow! Thanks, Michele!
This is my 100th dress! Michele let me take down her ornaments off her small Christmas tree and play with them before putting them away. I wanted to make a long-sleeved dress, but wasn't sure how to set up the bodice. After a few tries it turned out just great. I really like the bling effect on this dress, but wish I'd had more color options. Green would have been a nice addition. Moira and Shonnie both suggested this idea, so my thanks to them! Thanks, girls!
