Another of my granddaughters got an ensemble for her 18" doll too, except that hers was done in a pretty lime embroidered linen. The lime spencer that matched the dresses was done in fleece. And once more, I hand dyed the eyelet lace for the hem of the Edwardian dress to match the fabric. The outfits were a big hit with the girls and their dolls when we opened gifts this weekend!

For my granddaughter's Christmas present this year, I made her favorite 18" doll a new ensemble to wear. I wanted to unite an Edwardian look and a modern look by making a cerulean blue fleece spencer to go with both dresses. It was so much fun making the dresses! I even hand dyed the eyelet lace for the hem of the Edwardian dress to match.
Here is another background I created for a 8x8" DAJ page spread. This one used several layers of acrylic paints and scraps of newspaper, among other things. The dress was made using a cardboard cutout I made of a dress silhouette, then wrapped with fabric scraps from another project. I added a gorgeous glitter blue tulle ruffle to the bottom of the dress and included one of my favorite quotes by Oscar Wilde to complete the page.
This gown was actually a found object. It came on the front of a birthday card a friend sent me several years ago. I kept it because it was so beautiful, but didn't know what to do with it until I began art journaling. The dress was actually made from winding black satin ribbon around a cardboard dress silhouette, then adding cream satin embellishments. I thought it was an ingenious idea and used it for another spread I did later. The background paper for this page spread was scratch paper I used when working with my ink sprays on another project. I loved how the dreamy blend of colors complemented the stark black and cream of the gown!
I had so much fun making this DAJ spread! I created the evening dress from an origami dress kit and added embellishments to it to complete the look. I ink spray dyed the doily in the upper right corner to blend with the vintage paper background. The quote is actually a combination of a few others I found over the years. This is my own paraphrase of the concept. I wish I owned this dress for real . . . maybe in a drapey jersey knit that flowed around my ankles. *wistful sigh*

Denise FeltI took this challenge in the hopes of expanding my creativity as an artist. Already I'm seeing art in a new light -- as something to do for fun and not just practicality! Archives
