The abstract lily on this dress' overskirt is the focal point of this gorgeous gown. Stylized, with petals that fall to the hemline, this vibrant lily is made of chiffon. The underskirt is white silk. The bodice is made from lavender silk trimmed with white lace, and the foofy boa is made of two-tone silks (white and lavender.)
This dress is my 366th for this challenge (the extra day is because of the leap year), and it marks the end of the official challenge year. However, I'll never be done creating new fashion designs, so as I continue to make new dresses I will mark them down here so that others can enjoy them too. Thanks for being a part of my journey of discovery! If you have any cool dress ideas, please send me a pic and a description at [email protected] and I'll include them here so we can all see them.

This gown was made for another of my granddaughters, who loves purple. The mermaid style dress has a poofy skirt in lilac marble chiffon and a two-tone lilac and aqua blue poofy chiffon cape that ties with ribbon and beads. Note the hand painted lace trim on the bodice. I really enjoy using batiks for this style of dress, because it is so easy to work with, yet is durable enough to stand up to a little girl's whims. Of course, it doesn't hurt that the marble of the batik makes for wonderful colorplay throughout the slim silhouette of the dress!
This beautiful blue green batik made a really awesome mermaid style gown for Barbie! Strapless and with a deep blue silk ruffle, this dress is a surefire favorite for my granddaughters (who both love mermaids!) I finished it off with a blue marble chiffon boa to keep her shoulders warm on cool evenings. Barbie rocks this dress, but I think if it was my size, I might just be able to rock it too! *grin*
Now that it's Christmas I can finally unveil the dresses I've been working on for gifts! This gorgeous gown has a strapless bodice of sherbet marble overlaid with sherbet marble chiffon. The skirt is three layers: gold satin underskirt, sherbet chiffon overskirt, and sherbet chiffon embellished top skirt. A foofy two-tone chiffon boa in bronze and sherbet completes the ensemble. What do you think? Think my granddaughter will love it?
When I was a girl, my next door neighbor and I played Barbies every day. We often designed and made our own clothes for our dolls. This ensemble was made for that friend for her birthday a few years ago, but it never got delivered because I lost her address. A sage silk suit with embossed white satin blouse and a tweed plaid coat made up the outfit. It took me a long time to get back in touch with my good friend, but now that I have she will finally get her birthday present -- just a little late! *grin*
I had fun this morning tearing up a flat for eggs into a pretty dress shape. Once I had it the way I wanted, I added the eggs for a perfectly designed egg dress! It has taken me nearly the entire year to come up with a way to make an egg dress from fresh eggs -- but it turned out really cool, so I don't mind the wait! I like the subtle shades of the white and grey in this dress and can easily imagine it in a marble fabric. I need to make this dress now!
Today I got to cut up an onion for dinner -- my least favorite thing to cut up because it makes me cry. But the onion skins are so cool that I decided to make the most of it and create a dress while I was at it. This wrap halter dress was the result. I love the subdued pearlized colors of this dress and know they'd really look great on me. Too bad it's too late in the year for a summer dress! Maybe for next year?
Often when my daughter creates one of her fantastic recipes, I get to help out by cutting up veggies. I thoroughly enjoy that job, so when she said she was making homemade pizza for us tonight, I immediately got out the cutting board and knife! But before I cut up the mushrooms, I thought I'd play with them first. This short sleeved dress looks really cool with the cream and brown marbling that results from the colors of the mushrooms. I'd love to track down a fabric like this to make a real dress someday!
Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day -- but some days are definitely better than others! Here's a breakfast fit for any aspiring fashion designer. It includes chocolate coconut milk, Udi's gluten free toast with fig jam, and a delicious sheath dress made from a fried egg. Can anybody say "yum"!?!?
I spent most of last year on an animal print kick. It was great! Evidently I don't have it all out of my system yet, since I designed this dress in cheetah print. Sleeveless, with my signature mock turtleneck collar, the luxe knit creates a slender silhouette that can dance the night away. Worn with a faux mink full length coat, it packs a punch. Hmmm . . . I think I need to find this print so I can make this dress. I want to go dancing!
