This year my birthday was extra special! I had two parties -- and one of them was a surprise party!!!!! Isn't that GREAT?! I took a few scraps from junk mail flyers, added a few pieces from birthday cards I received, a shopping list, and a scrap of metallic fabric and put them on a large cardstock junk mail postcard. Then I added a pretty pink striped fabric dress (complete with bow and rhinestones) and a fitting sentiment. Ta-da! The perfect memory keepsake for this year's amazingly happy birthday!

Here is the finished panorama canvas. Didn't it turn out beautifully with all those fabulous dresses hanging from the beaded wire? The quote is from Oscar Wilde and says it all quite perfectly: "One should either be a work of art or wear a work of art." I didn't know anyone other than me felt this way about clothes! So awesome!
This work of art was so much fun to create! I did it in stages, working up from torn scraps of paper collaged from JoAnn Fabrics ads onto the canvas. Then I painted over them in several different layers, finishing with an antique gold metallic covering all. I then added a layer of tiny gold seed beads and sealed them in place after they were glued by dusting the entire surface with acrylic spray. I tacked the thin copper wire to each side of the canvas after adding small bronze metallic beads to it. Finally, I hung the scrapbook paper dresses from their shoulder hang tags onto the wire and kept them from falling off by scotch taping the tags to their backs. I was so excited about how well the piece turned out that I immediately hung it on my wall! This fun girly dress appeals to my feminine side, which admittedly isn't very large. However, it's still there and shouldn't be ignored. I used a great lace scrapbook paper for this design, which was originally a bridal sheet. I think it works wonderfully as my sweet empire waist flirty dress. I added a pink rose for accent and really wish I had the dress in my closet so I could wear it shopping -- the most girly pastime I know! *grin*
This Steampunk style dress with leather corset was made using more precious scraps of patterned paper, this time a great polka dot I'd been hoarding for a special project. Well, this dress qualifies. Isn't it gorgeous? I love the mock vintage shirtwaist styling of the dress and its deviation from the norm with its short narrow skirt. Alone, this dress would be an eyecatcher. Paired with the leather corset, it's a stunner!
As an addiction, scrapbooking rates as something beyond curing. Mostly because if you love patterned paper, there's far too much of it laying around to ever just ignore, so sooner or later you're going to fall off the wagon. And if you love paper a lot, the sooner is virtually guaranteed. But the biggest reason the addiction is beyond a cure is because no one who has it wants to be cured. That said, this delightful ensemble was created from another of my favorite scraps that I'd been holding onto forever, but never wanted to use. However, the globe's longitudinal lines were so perfect for the flare of the skirt that I couldn't resist. And the border motifs of ancient peoples around the world made for a great patterned knit top to go with the skirt. I love the ensemble and wish my wardrobe had more of this style in it. I'll have to work on that.

Denise FeltI took this challenge in the hopes of expanding my creativity as an artist. Already I'm seeing art in a new light -- as something to do for fun and not just practicality! Archives
