The girls made delicious spritz cookies and shared them with us. Looking at the leftovers on the plate, one of my granddaughters asked if I wanted to make a dress from them. So of course I did! A flirty slip dress worked best with the number of cookies I had to work with. Or a negligee. Hmmm -- edible underwear perhaps? *grin*

My aunt Teresa also sent me some clamshells with the driftwood. I thought a flirty summer dress would be just the thing to do with them. I'd love a white cotton dress like this, especially with the grain and subtle colors of the clamshells in the print. I can almost see myself walking along the beach wearing this dress, the breeze off the ocean mussing my hair and swirling the full skirt around my bare legs. *sigh* I think I need a trip to the sea!
I think being cooped up in the house because of winter is starting to get to me. I can't stop thinking of summer and the beach. Maybe it'll get warm enough that I can take a walk in the park and clear my head. I hope it happens soon. I'm getting cabin fever! This drape neck gown was inspired by my granddaughter's driftwood dress that she created. I fell in love with the neckline of her dress and had to use it for a dress style for me! I love the figure-hugging style of the dress that flares out past the knees. Such beautiful grainlines and natural colors in this dress! It's almost too pretty for daywear! I would wear it to the office, then dress it up for evening with a glittery belt and necklace. If done in a jersey knit, you could be comfortable wearing it all day, then dance all night quite happily!
This was another of the dress designs the girls and I did while playing Fashion Solitaire. It was my favorite. I love the sassy mini skirt in brown wool paired with the brown turtleneck and striped velvet jacket. To finish it off, we added brown tights and cool shoes. Please ignore the extra lines in the photo. They're caused by the screen when I took the shot. This is the type of suit I've always loved, although these days I wear my skirts a bit longer than this one. But if I had the figure for it, you can bet I'd wear a mini!
My wonderful aunt Teresa sent me some lovely driftwood from a beach in the Pacific Northwest. She loves beaches and visits them often wherever she travels. I'm so pleased that she sent me these beautiful specimens! I made a gauzy beach sarong from them and put a sea moss ruffle trim on the bodice. It's so intriguing to me to see if I can make something so concrete seem ephemeral. How I would enjoy walking along a shoreline wearing a sarong made from a gauzy driftwood print! Thanks, Aunt Teresa, for making me think of a summer beach walk!
Happy Valentine's Day! Today I spent playing a wonderful computer game with my granddaughters. It was given to me a few years ago by my daughter-in-law Breana, and it's called Fashion Solitaire. It's the girls' favorite game of mine to play. I've wished for some time that I could somehow keep the dresses I design on the program so I could make them later, but I never was able to capture the images as jpegs. Until tonight. I thought I should at least try to photograph them from the computer screen. They turned out slightly blurry with lines through everything, and there are a few fingerprints from little hands as well. But overall, I got the capture! This dress the girls and I designed. It's an aqua lace wrap skirt and crop jacket worn with a white lace camisole. It's the perfect date wear for Valentine's Day, so I couldn't resist making it my dress for the day!
You know, often since I took this challenge I've realized what a good thing it is that I love to collect little things. I've used many of my tiny collections as 'fabric' for my dresses, and these small cookie cutters are no exception. My gingerbread man upside down made for a lovely bustier type bodice, and I used the rest of my tiny cutters for the full skirt with the handkerchief hem. Do you like the full puff sleeves? They balance out the look very well, I think, although if I actually made this dress I would tone them down a bit. Something about this dress makes my mouth water -- could it be I'm thinking of tiny frosted sugar cookies?
This gorgeous gown is actually a portion of the Cats Eye Nebula, one of the most complex nebulae discovered by the Hubble telescope. I loved how its cloudy rings of dust particles formed such intriguing lines in this gown. And the blues, purples, and mauves create a lovely marbled effect! Made up in a slinky knit, this dress would be both stunning and comfortable, two things sure to make it a hit at any party. And if you get a bit of stardust in your eyes, who could blame you? *grin*
I realize that the name of this dress could be misleading, since there are no cats or eyes in this dress. However, I already have a nebula dress, so I had to get more specific for this one and use the actual name of the nebula in the picture. Mattel recently came out with a Shoe Obsession Barbie, but her shoe dress is pathetic next to mine! This colorful collage of Barbie shoes truly embodies the fun and adventure that comes with a new pair of shoes. If these shoes were done up as a rayon print, I would definitely wear this dress this spring! How much fun it would be to showcase this work of art! Woo-hoo!
Since Valentine's Day is coming up, I just had to play with those fun candy hearts that for me symbolize the holiday. This slender dress with a hint of flare at the hemline and fluttery sleeves looks sweet, but has a daring plunge for the neckline. It definitely makes its own statement for the occasion! *grin*

Denise FeltI took this challenge in the hopes of expanding my creativity as an artist. Already I'm seeing art in a new light -- as something to do for fun and not just practicality! Archives
