While going through my papers to pack them up, I found a bunch of ticket stubs from over the years. Places I went that I enjoyed and wanted to remember. The opera, the movies, etc. They make a pretty dress, don't they? And one with a lot of good memories mixed in.

My daughter used this gorgeous magenta stretch lace to make herself a dress. She let me have a bit of the leftovers to make a dress for this fashion doll as a gift to our little neighbor girl on her birthday. The bodice was wrapped, but the skirt has an underlayer of dark magenta stretch knit. The pretty bow in her hair was the finishing touch. Happy birthday, Sydney!
I made these adorable nightgowns for my equally adorable granddaughters to wear this summer. I repurposed a full size sheet that somehow missed getting in the Goodwill box. It made such pretty little nightgowns for them both. A little ribbon and a few beads with their initials on them and we were done. Now they can sleep cool all summer long.
First off, I am ultra-critical of any photos taken of me, so I don't normally model my own clothes for my portfolio. I have someone else do it who won't make me want to dissect the shot afterwards. But I'm trying to loosen up as an artist, and this is a good way for me to come outside my comfort zone and take life a little less seriously. Here I am in my new dress I made yesterday. The pine green knit drapes very well and is flattering to my figure. I got compliments on my appearance at church today, which always is a plus. And the dress is not only easy to make, it's easy to wear. I think I'll be using this pattern a lot this summer! *grin*
I had so much fun making my nightgown from my new dress pattern that I immediately started thinking about other dresses I could make from that pattern. I got out a few of my fabrics and started to play. Eventually I came up with a few ideas for easy summer dresses. The pattern only takes about an hour to go from cutting out to hemming the finished dress, and the style looks great on me. So I have a feeling this is going to be my new favorite dress design for a while. *grin* Today I made a green dress. Maybe I'll see if my daughter can get a good shot of me wearing it tomorrow and put it up. In the meantime, here are a few of the design ideas I came up with while I was playing with my fabrics.
Since I went to the fabric store today, I decided to make my dress out of the plastic bag I brought home my goodies in. I didn't have to do much to it to make it look like a summer dress, although it's a bit shorter than I would wear it. It's a fresh crisp look though, and white always looks great during the hot months. (But probably not white plastic!)
It took me all day to upload all my backlog of dresses waiting to be put online. But it's done and I'm caught up! Yea! Hopefully I won't get behind again during the actual move to our new place. Keep your fingers crossed for me! Moira suggested this dress idea a while ago, and I finally got the chance to make it. What do you think of my striped Q-tip skirt? Isn't the outfit adorable? It's perfect for a cool day when a sweater can be worn for a top. Pairing it with a gauzy ruffled skirt adds so much texture and fun, especially if the sweater brings out one of the dominant colors from the skirt. I've worn this style of outfit many times and always get compliments when I do. Thanks, Moira!
Ever since I began this challenge, I've wanted to make a DVD dress like Noah's video skull. Well, today I finally figured out how while I was boxing up my DVDs for the move. I simply removed a shelf of my bookcase and stacked them all on there. It worked great! This slick dress has a plunging red halter bodice that attaches at a high waist to a black leather straight skirt. Not for the timid, it's definitely a dress for a woman who knows who she is and where she's going. Have fun seeing which movies I used from my collection to make this dress!
As I'm taking things off the walls, I'm filling my little toolbox back up with nails and screws. The walls always look so sad when they're bare, but it won't be for long. Once we're in our new house we'll put everything back up on the new walls. Yea! In the meantime, here's a pretty little hardware dress to remind me to still have fun while I'm packing things away.
I rarely make a gown in profile, but I wanted to show the train for this one. It's not quite the weather for my favorite 13 bean soup, but the beans wanted to come out and play -- so I let them! They made a fabulous strapless evening gown! I think my biggest problem wearing this dress would be deciding whether to go with pearls or hematite for the jewelry. *grin*

Denise FeltI took this challenge in the hopes of expanding my creativity as an artist. Already I'm seeing art in a new light -- as something to do for fun and not just practicality! Archives
