As soon as I saw this cover of SHAPE magazine, I knew I wanted to create my own bling gown from it. I was just hesitant to try it out. But as New Year's Eve apporached and I got in the mood for glittery things, I decided to go for it even though I was sure it would make a mess. It did make a mess using all that glitter and glue, but what a great dress came out of it! I'd wear it to a New Year's Eve party! It rocks! Note the bling ruby accessories I added (earrings and ring!) Happy New Year's everyone!

In honor of all the runny noses members of my family have experienced this winter so far, I just had to make a dress from our empty Puffs kleenex box. It's a little frumpy, but then it's a house dress. Nothing else seemed appropriate for a head cold. However, she's hopeful that she'll feel well enough to go shopping, so she has her purse ready -- just in case! *grin*
We all got these delicious mini M & M's in our stockings Christmas morning, and my oldest granddaughter (who's 5) gave me the idea to make mine into a dress before eating them all. I'm so grateful to her, because I would have gobbled them all and had nothing left to work with if she hadn't spoken when she did. I like the marbling effect of the red and green minis. It looks so festive! In honor of using the mini M & M's, this dress is a mini dress, stopping just above the knee. So fun! So edible! Special thanks to my granddaughter for her idea. (And of course, the candies didn't last more than 10 minutes after this photo was taken!)
Once more I took to the stars to create a stunning work of art. This gorgeous nebula looks like the eye of a particularly fierce dragon, and who do dragons desire most? Princesses! I chose this demure medieval princess silhouette for the focus of this dragon's thoughts. I titled it "Dragon's Eye." I'm so pleased with how it turned out! Feel free to download this image for your wallpaper or print it out for your wall. Just don't try to sell it on Ebay. NASA holds the copyright on this nebula's picture.
One of the many things I've been enjoying about this challenge is the opportunity to try out ideas I would never have pursued before. These creative works of silhouette art are completely new to me -- and I'm loving how beautiful they turn out! I'm not usually surprised by what comes out of me, but these pieces have absolutely amazed me. I didn't know they were in there! I can't wait to see what other treasures are hiding inside awaiting their chance to be created! Woo-hoo! Looking forward to 2012! In October, my daughter made her girls each a Renaissance gown to wear for Ren Fairs and Halloween. For Christmas, I made their dolls each a matching gown. I used leftover scraps from their purple gowns to make the doll dresses, but instead of the fragile ribbon trim used on the girls' gowns, I used a sturdier ribbon trim for their dolls so they would hold up longer even with a lot of loving. The 15" dolls looked lovely in their finery, and I prettied their hair and added bling ribbon to their updos. They were a big hit!
This delicious party dress is full of bling, yet edible. What more could anyone ask? My daughter bought me a bag of Lindt truffles for Christmas, so of course I just had to make a dress out of them before gobbling them all. The individual wrappers for each truffle were so cute and blingy that I kept them. Perhaps you will see them later on in another dress creation. Here's hoping your Christmas was as merry and bright as mine was! Happy New Year!
As the year winds to a close, I find myself excited to see what new dress ideas will come to me in the new year. Please feel free to email or Facebook me at any time with your ideas for this challenge. When I have another drawing, I'll be sure to put your name in the hat! I have no problem letting people know that I celebrate Christmas and who is the main reason for the holiday. Call me politically incorrect! *grin* For today's dress I used my favorite nativity set (I have many!) and arranged them into a lovely frock for Jesus' birthday. Notice how the camels' humps make a nice frill along the hem of the dress? Merry Christmas, everyone!
This is the second dress snowflake I made. More complex a design than my first snowflake, it has 6 long and 6 short dresses in it, as well as a multitude of hearts to say how much I love dresses! It turned out so beautifully that I didn't want to hoard it to myself, so when I had the contest for ideas I decided to give this 12 x 12" page as the drawing prize. Marla won it and has notified me that she received it in the mail before Christmas. Yea! Merry Christmas to everyone! May your night be full of God's peace and wonderful Yuletide dreams!
Marla suggested that I make a candy cane dress, and since I had also had that thought flit across my mind, I had to do it! The large candy canes turned out to not be much fun to work with, but the little ones were just right. I really love the old-fashioned feel of this lovely ballgown! I'd wear it and be full of Christmas cheer -- especially with that big foofy skirt! *grin*
I feel challenged now to see if there might be a way to work with those larger candy canes. Just because my mind couldn't figure it out one day doesn't mean that I won't get inspired on another day. Maybe I just need to think in a bigger scale. We'll see how many are left on the tree after Christmas. My neighbor Jana brought me these Cutie peelings, thinking they might make a great dress. And she was right! This refreshing tropical sundress is the perfect thing to wear when you get away from winter's cold in January on a cruise to Jamaica or Bali. (Just remember to take me with you!) I have just the right shade of orange summer gauze to make up this dress come spring. I think I'll look fabulous in this dress! Thanks, Jana, for giving me this inspiration!
