Fairy Poetry
Denise wrote Fairy Lullabies as an adult, but many of the poems were dreamed of as a young girl growing up in a large family with too many brothers. (And face it, boys just don't get fairies like girls do.) These lullaby poems from her book are for you to enjoy.

A Fairy’s Lullaby
Late at night while others dream,
I dance upon a frozen stream
and watch fish swim ponderously slow
far beneath the surface glow.
I wonder at their liquid home
so close, so different from my own.
What thoughts seep through their luminous skin
to soon flow out, then seep back in?
They sometimes see me on the ice --
or think they see me and look twice --
but they don’t venture close enough
to be sure what that is above.
The trees above me softly shurr
and beckon to a world secure
from cold and wind on branches thick
with silver needles. I fly quick
into their warmth, their soft embrace,
to lie there in that quiet place
and watch a bird stir from its rest
to wink, then snuggle in its nest.
I wonder what a bird dreams of
here in the pine trees high above
the stream where fish so slowly swim
and think a liquid secret whim?
The branches sway and whisper songs
of sleep and slumber, but I long
for starfresh winds against my wings.
I soar to where the night sky sings
in crystal notes among the stars,
for that is where the fairies are.
And how we dance above the snow!
And how our wings in starlight glow!
And how the moon beams at our play
and smiles until it sinks away
to sleep, as we do all around
our fairy circle on the ground.
Pink
As the sun closes
its eyes, the fairies quickly
paint the skyline pink.
Song of the Fairies
Come, my sweetings, let us fly!
The moon is so full tonight!
In the meadow by and by
where, my darlings, we will fly,
we’ll sing and hear the earth reply!
We’ll dance till the sun’s first light!
Come, my beauties, let us fly
for the moon is full tonight!
Glimpse
Looking up between
the leaves, I am dazzled by
a glimpse of fairies.
